Review: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion 11 ml (Original Shade)

by - Kamis, Maret 27, 2014

I'm not a person who likes wearing make-up to begin with. Of course it will underline the fact that: I can't do make-up. But lately there are so many times when my friends (my close friends), my sisters (incl. sister-in-law and cousins), my moms and perhaps all the whole world start complaining the way I couldn't even put powder and foundation properly onto my face #sob. The way I don't even know how to use eyeshadow, eyeliner, even blush-on. I mean, is it really a must-have-skill for every girl? Well, gladly my bf accepts me just the way I am (love you, hun), but, still, it doesn't make me well-accepted in society. That's rude.

So, that's why I'm learning make-up now, guess I will post more pictures of my face in the future. Bf doesn't like this anyway but he's okay, I mean, maybe I would be able to do my own face on our wedding next 10 years, HAHA!

Today's review is about an eye-base. I've been using eyeshadow without base for so long. Back then, I was wondering why people could do a perfect and bold color on their eyes, ah, so this is their secret: an eyebase. I did quiet searching activities before deciding to buy one, read so many reviews about many brands; some are even adding my confusions, some were helping me a lot, thanks internet + bloggers!

Yes. It's Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. Everyone who loves make-up knows this, even unexpectedly my auntie loves this brand a lot! I decided to buy this since female bloggers are bragging a lot about this product and how they feel satisfied with its long-last performance. Makes me wonder.

The Packaging

There is still no official Urban Decay store in Indonesia, so I had to purchase this online. I bought the mini size, 11 mL for IDR 150,000 (US $ 16), quiet pricey compared with local products (which is only US$4) but there are reasons why I was so sure to try this than other cheaper ones as starter:

My eyes are oily, without base, that's why every eyeshadow I own (and had used before) couldn't last for long. While Indonesian-made eye bases are mostly suit for normal skin and couldn't work perfectly for oily skin-type (based on some reviews and my own conclusion). So, I'm hoping much on this.

Wrapped in a plastic box, it's only my palm size big. But the seller (which is also a blogger) made sure that it could last for more than two or three months within frequently using - what kind of using do you refer to I wonder?

The tube has a unique cap (remembering me to Aladin & Jasmine) ! Oh and anyway, there are so many fake products of Urban Decay lately, not to mention this product too, I ever found an online shop who sells its replicas. However, I kept my faith for this product to be a real one.

Promises

Quoted from its advertorial:

One of Urban Decay's all-time bestselling products! Apply before your eyeshadow for more vibrant, crease-free colour that lasts for 24 hours.

This is it — the most legendary primer in the beauty industry. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion is coveted by makeup artists and makeup junkies alike because it guarantees more vibrant eyeshadow that lasts for 24 hours and never creases! Once you experience its powers (plus how smoothly it glides on — an added bonus) you'll never want to live without it. This extraordinary elixir comes in an easy-to-squeeze tube so you can control how much you apply.

Available in 4 shades:
  • Original: Dries Down Invisibly
  • Sin: Shimmering Champagne
  • Eden: Nude Matte
  • Greed

Mine is Original shade.

Original shade Ingredients:
Isododecane, Talc, Cyclopentasiloxane, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Trihydroxystearin, Polyethylene, Triethylhexanoin, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Isopropyl Lanolate, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Dimethicone, PEG-40 Stearate, Synthetic Beeswax, Propylene Carbonate, Phenoxyethanol, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Isobutylparaben. <+/- (May Contain/Peut contenir): CI 77019 (Mica), CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491/77492/77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride)>.

Wow, see the titanium dioxide term? So this primer contains sunscreen!

I found it easy to squeeze and to adjust how much I'm gonna use the cream. I even take it out carefully just making sure I will not waste every single of it.

Sorry if I only put small amount of the cream, lol. It has a white shade, even lighter than my yellow skin, not oily, medium thickness and quiet easy to apply.

Application and Result

When wearing make-up I avoid adding things around eyes area instead eye cream and serum only. Afterall, I need some quiet of time to definitely understand why in the end this product is so-called superb -since at the same time I also learn how to wear eyeshadow properly, which  is important for me to know what it look like to have a good eye make-up.

Pros
1) Eventhough I don't have any product comparison, I can tell how much I'm amazed with this primer, my even cheap local eyeshadow can work perfectly on my face. And it doesn't oily too!
2) I'm not using branded or popular eyeshadow at this time but I can distinguish how this primer can enhance its colors.
3) Long last for eyeshadow! Yes, since my eyelids are no longer oily.
4) It can cover my dark circle around eyelid, creating fresh look.

Cons
1) Pricey. But, I perhaps couldn't find any as good as this #sob.
2) A bit tricky when applying, dabbing is better than swiping the cream on eyelid, it will streak and no longer create smooth coverage, moreover if eyelid is too dry.

Will I re-purchase?
I love this product though :)
If... In the future I'm gonna have 'serious events' which need more professional make-up look (like music performing, pro-photo session, etc), I'm so gonna buy this, but for my daily activities/casual events, this won't be on my top priority. So 50-50.

I hope my skill on make up will increase.
See you!

  3. Great review; I love UDPP and use it exclusively. Haven't really come across any other shadow primers that work as well. I haven't tried the tinted primers they have yet though.
